Installation – What to Expect
Professionally installed by Barn Project, from start to finish. Every Barn Project door is custom-made for your opening and professionally installed by our team. We take care of the hardware, positioning, adjustments and final checks to ensure your new door looks great and operates as intended.
Installation Process
-
Building Your Door
Once your order is confirmed, we begin handcrafting your door in our Melbourne workshop.
Each door is made to your specifications, then carefully painted or finished in preparation for installation.
Lead times typically range from 2–6 weeks, depending on your chosen door design.
-
Scheduling Your Installation
As your door nears completion, we'll contact you approximately one week before your planned installation to discuss a suitable date.
We schedule installations week by week to coordinate our deliveries and installation locations.
-
Confirming Your Installation
During the week of your installation, we'll send you another message confirming that everything is progressing as planned.
We'll keep you updated if anything changes, including unexpected weather conditions that may affect your installation date.
When plans need to change
We do our best to keep every installation on schedule, but occasionally unforeseen circumstances can cause delays.
Rain is one of our biggest challenges, as we transport our doors on an open ute and cannot safely deliver or install them in wet weather. Other unexpected circumstances may also affect our schedule.
If we need to postpone your installation, we'll contact you as soon as possible and do our best to arrange the next suitable date.
We appreciate your understanding and flexibility. Our priority is always to deliver and install your door safely, without compromising its finish or quality.
Owner-Installed, Every Time
At Barn Project, your door will always be installed by one of our three owners — Chantelle, Mason or Logan.
We don't outsource our installations to third-party contractors. As a family-owned business, we take pride in personally installing our doors, ensuring every installation meets our standards of quality and workmanship.
From our workshop to your home, you're in good hands.
More Important Information
Preparing for Your Installation
To help us complete your installation safely and efficiently, please ensure the doorway, surrounding walls and work area are clear before our installer arrives.
We ask that you move any furniture, decorations or personal belongings that may obstruct access. Please also ensure there is a clear pathway for us to safely carry your new door into your home.
A little preparation goes a long way in helping us complete your installation without unnecessary delays.
How Long Does Installation Take?
Most standard single barn door installations take approximately 30–60 minutes once our team is on-site and ready to install.
Larger doors, double-door systems, complex openings or installations requiring additional support may take longer.
Installation times are a guide only and will vary depending on the requirements of each project.
Existing Doors, Architraves & Fittings
Our standard installation covers fitting your new barn door and the hardware included in your quotation.
Removal of existing hinged doors, tracks, architraves, door stops or other fittings is not automatically included.
If your installation requires existing fittings to be removed or modified, this must be discussed and confirmed during the quotation process.
Please check your quotation carefully to ensure any additional removal or preparation work has been included.
Unless specifically quoted, patching, plaster repairs and repainting of surrounding walls following removal of existing fittings are not included.
Uneven Walls, Floors & Ceilings
Not all homes are perfectly straight or level, particularly older homes where walls, floors and ceilings may have shifted over time.
We use professional laser levelling equipment to ensure your barn door and track are installed as accurately as possible.
If your walls or floors are uneven, this may result in visible differences in gaps around the door. Our installer can demonstrate these variations using our laser equipment and explain how they may affect the finished installation.
We will always do our best to achieve the best possible result, however, we cannot be held responsible for existing structural irregularities or limitations caused by uneven walls, floors or ceilings.
Please understand that correcting these existing conditions is outside the scope of a standard barn door installation.
Final Adjustments & Paint Touch-Ups
Every installation includes final positioning, adjustments and operational checks.
We check the door's movement, alignment, closing position, handles and soft-close mechanisms where fitted.
As our doors are transported from our workshop to your home, minor paint touch-ups may occasionally be needed after installation.
Black painted doors and glass doors may receive a fresh overall coat of paint on-site to achieve a consistent finish after transport and handling.
These finishing touches form part of our normal installation process.
Your Final Inspection & Sign-Off
We require the customer or an authorised representative to be present at the completion of installation.
Before our installer leaves, we will walk you through your new door, demonstrate its operation and allow you to inspect the finished product.
This includes checking the paint finish, door positioning, handle placement and soft-close operation where applicable.
Once the installation has been inspected and approved, we will ask you to complete our customer sign-off.
If you cannot be present, please arrange for an authorised representative or contact us in advance to reschedule your installation.
Our final inspection and sign-off form an important part of our installation handover and workmanship warranty process. Your statutory rights under Australian Consumer Law remain unaffected.
Final Payment
The remaining balance is payable on installation day, before our installer leaves the property.
For your convenience, we accept:
- Card payments – Our installer has a card payment facility available on-site.
- PayID – You can make payment electronically, with confirmation of payment required before our installer departs.
After Installation
We want your new door to continue looking and operating as it should.
We will explain how to operate your door correctly and provide guidance on any relevant care requirements.
If you require an adjustment or notice a problem after installation, please contact Barn Project so we can assess the issue.
Our workmanship warranty and Australian Consumer Law protections apply as outlined in our Terms & Conditions.
